Red Pandolin- Red Panda + Pangolin

This was one of the works I was most proud of. The assignment was to choose two animals with different textures and blend them together. Allowing us to have an understanding of texture and how it can have different reflections and shadows. I chose the Red Panda and the Pangolin because the red panda has fur while the pangolin has scales. I like the scales of the pangolin because they are big, but also unique to them. First we had to study the form of each animal and then study the texture of their bodies. I enjoyed creating a textured sphere for both animals, especially the Pangolin. Then we had to create 3 different concepts on how we would blend the two animals, using different qualities of both and combining them in unique ways. Once we chose a concept that was the strongest, we had to add on the details and create a sense of lighting. Using a greyscale color scheme to further capture it effectively without worrying about the finer colors. Using what we have studied to capture the lighting on both textures of the animal. I really liked how this piece turned out, and surprised myself at what I can do in relation to my art skills.
